Programs that provide a variety of nonmedical evaluations to determine the range, nature and extent of hearing loss and rehabilitation services for people whose hearing impairments cannot be improved by medical or surgical means. Audiologists evaluate hearing, identify hearing disorders, assess hearing aids and teach clients to conserve hearing and use residual hearing. (AIRS LR-8000.0500)

Eligibility:

Children's Hearing Aid Program serves children 0-5 years old. Children ages 6+ may apply for the Hearing Aid Recycling Program. Qualifying children must:

  • be a resident of Utah
  • be diagnosed as having hearing loss by an audiologist
  • provide documentation from an audiologist with pediatric expertise certifying that he/she needs hearing aids
  • be ineligible to receive a hearing aid through the state’s Medicaid program
  • not have insurance coverage for hearing aids
  • meet the financial need qualification criteria established by the department for participation
Services Provided:

Provides access to hearing aids for financially eligible families. Accepts donations of used hearing aids and unused batteries.
