Children and adults with special needs

Ski and summer programs for children and adults with special needs. Programs offered include; ski lessons, snowshoe tours and sledge hockey throughout the winter, and numerous outdoor recreational activities such as hiking on barrier-free trails, fishing, biking, tram rides and environmental awareness programs in the summer.

The program focuses on children, but services are available to those of any age.

Helps blind and visually-impaired students, ages 5-25, adjust to and deal with their vision loss, develop confidence in their abilities, and understand their potential as they grow towards independence with educational programs, sports/recreation and other activities. The opportunity to be in a group environment of peers helps to develop leadership skills.

Must have a diagnosed intellectual disability. Additional disabilities will not limit a person’s qualification to participate. Programs are offered to adults 18 years and older.

RAH strives to make life better for individuals with intellectual disabilities as well as the families that support them. Provides educational and life skill classes, social recreational programs, community involvement, respite for families, and structured day services. Services are currently available for individuals age 18 and older.

Blind or legally blind. Individuals with special needs must have a caregiver attendee.

Club Vision, AKA The Andrew S. Rowan Reading Room for the Blind is open to anyone who is legally blind. Club members, mostly seniors, meet three times a week at Cottonwood-Murray Elks Lodge for a free luncheon, where volunteers sing and read to them. Also transportation to and from Reading Room if needed (within range). Wheelchair accessible.

Miracle League Adaptive Youth Baseball has a new rubber softball field at the Gene Fullmer Fitness and Recreation Center. Meet new friends and learn new skills.
Maximum of 10 players on each team
Each player is safe on base
Every player bats each inning
Volunteers and parents serve as “buddies” for players
Each team and player wins every game

Girls in wheelchairs, 12 years of age and younger

Provides opportunities for women and girls in wheelchairs to recognize their unique potential, not in spite of being wheelchair bound, but because of it. Hosts an annual Princess Pageant comprised of two separate events, the first is a fun tea party where contestants eat lunch and dance with princesses. The second event is the actual pageant itself where friends and family come to cheer their contestant.

Young Life is a Christian ministry that reaches out to middle school, high school and college-aged kids in all 50 states.

Some Young Life areas have dedicated programs for students and young adults with disabilities, typically referred to as Young Life Capernaum. Young Life Capernaum gives young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to experience fun and adventure, to develop fulfilling friendships and to challenge their limits while building self-esteem through club, camp and other exciting activities.
